As a frequent traveller I’m always on the lookout for fashion that is practical yet still stylish, which is actually a pretty hard thing to find!
So much clothing nowadays is made of synthetic fibres that just aren’t going to cut it in the hot sun, let alone the humidity of Asia – and more practical items are shapeless and uninspiring.
With this in mind, I was very interested when asked to take a look at the debut collection by London Designer, Katey Jane Smith, which was inspired by her time spent living and working in Laos, Southeast Asia. The pieces are handmade from natural silk and cotton fabrics and designed for stylish travel.
I was immediately struck by the rich colours and prints and the lightweight fabrics, perfect for rolling up and popping in a case.
She has a great range of pieces to choose from with beautifully soft, hand-painted silk vest tops, cropped tees, cool silk shorts and tie-dyed tops, dresses and leggings.
Katey’s designs are made with the traditional dying and printing techniques of the Laotian H’Mong people and her prints were inspired by the monsoon season which gives them a misty and soft, yet rich colour palette:
When thinking about styling the collection, it also became apparent how versatile each individual piece is, how interchangeable they all are and how easily they can be glammed up for evenings out too – with just a couple of her pieces, it really wouldn’t take many additional items to achieve a cohesive and stylish holiday wardrobe.
Even if you’re a regular traveller, whilst it’s great to have some holiday staples, most people can’t afford to have a whole wardrobe of pieces purely for travel – so it’s great to be able to find items that will mix and match with your clothes at home and layer up in the cooler months:
The sleeveless silk tops are super soft, cool fabrics that come in a range of colours with designs featuring hand painted watercolour artworks which have been transformed into a digitally printed textile design:
Rich blue crop tops, leotards and floaty silk shorts are perfect for wearing to the beach but as the sun goes down, layer up some jewellery and pop on a pair of metallic heels for a super sexy and chic evening look:

Bring the colour palette of Asia into your home – A wide range of hand painted silk pouches perfect for storing travel essentials is also available, and the most heavenly array of cushions :
Verdict: A refreshingly original collection of chic bohemian, travel friendly pieces
which will suit all shapes and sizes.
I had great fun styling and shooting them in an urban setting, which proves how flexible the collection is – so whether you are Ibiza or India bound, or simply playing in the city this summer, I would highly recommend you take a look at the collection.
