My Forest Escape Photo Diary

A couple of weeks ago I headed off to the Forest of Dean, leaving wifi (aka Instagram) and work behind.

I forced myself to take a complete break and the pictures in this post weren’t taken specifically for my blog – but on the way home I did stop and take some at a gorgeous castle which seem to have been really popular, so if you haven’t seen them yet they’re here!

So anyway, here’s my holiday forest photo diary!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed….

Home for the week:

Everyone is welcome:

Sitting by the log burner, listening to nothing but owls hooting and the rushing river rapids close by:

Waking up to glorious blue skies, watching swathes of mist roll through the trees above the river:

Lazy Pub Lunches by the water:

(Rather off-putting lunchtime audience!)

Faces in the sun:

Chilly, Misty Walks in Symonds Yat:

Back home to the warming fire:

… and of course, wine:

Ho! Ho! Ho! to the bottle I go
To heal my heart and drown my woe.
Rain my fall and wind may blow,
And many miles be still to go,
But under a tall tree I will lie,
And let the clouds go sailing by.

All too soon it was over.

Saying goodbye to the views:

It was so refreshing to spend a few days closer to nature…. and I’m really missing those views and log burner!

Where do you want to escape to next?

I’ve always wanted to go off the grid for the weekend but it’s too tempting to pick up my phone. I never thought about doing a photo series like this but I adore this idea. Your pictures are incredible (teach me how to edit like this 😫) and it looks like it was a cozy time!
