I’ve totally changed my skincare routine recently…
I have wanted to get some decent anti-aging products for a while, but my skin has been quite sensitive so I was worried about trying anything too strong, like a retinol – but then I was sent some marine, algae based products by Algenist, so it seemed perfect timing to give something new a try.
I have a few fine lines appearing around my eyes, nothing major at the moment – but I do spend a lot of time in the sun each year and despite using an SPF 50 religiously, it’s pretty hard not to get a certain amount of sun exposure on my face.
So I’ve been using this new regime for a few weeks now and feel I’ve thoroughly tested the products out…. and this is how I’ve found them!
Algenist is an award-winning beauty brand that combines the knowledge of scientists – biotechnology, with the natural power of plants, specifically algae. Their products contain naturally sourced Alguronic Acid, the compound within algae that is responsible for regenerating the plants within very harsh environments.
They are a high-end skincare brand who offer ‘visible and measurable anti-aging results in 10 days’.
I was sent a serum, a collagen treatment and a moisturiser…
Advanced Wrinkle Fighter Serum:
The serum is designed to fight the appearance of wrinkles and I’ve been using it in the morning, before my moisturiser.
The blurb: “….this powerful anti-ageing serum is formulated with Alguronic Acid and Peptide3D Complex, and helps to visibly minimise the size and depth of wrinkles. This potent formula will visibly restore your skin’s density and elasticity, so you can enjoy a smoother and more radiant looking complexion”.
It’s a lightweight, white fluid which I use two pumps of for my whole face and neck.
It smooths on really nicely, has a light scent and is absorbed instantly.
I’m shockingly late to the serum party, I’ve been worried it would give me too much moisture as my skin has been normal and not at all dry in recent years, so I was pleasantly surprised that the combination of these products has not been too much at all, as they are all nice and light.
I decided to stick to my normal moisturiser in the mornings because I know it works well under foundation and I’ve been saving the more powerful, Algenist moisturiser for the evenings when it can really do its stuff while I sleep!
In the evenings I’ve been using the Liquid Collagen treatment before the moisturiser – and I’m obsessed with it!
It’s a liquid, collagen packed treatment designed to improve the firmness and elasticity of your skin.
The blurb: “…a breakthrough, anti-ageing formula that utilises high-quality, effective ingredients to address loss of firmness and elasticity.
Fortified with 13,000 Microalgae Oil beads and innovative Plant Collagen (created by blending Corn, Soy and Wheat protein fibres), the quick-absorbing treatment delivers long-lasting moisture and hydration, whilst helping to restore the skin’s bounce and resilience.
Rich in omegas and antioxidant Vitamin E, Liquid Collagen™ targets dullness, uneven texture and sagging skin to promote a smoother, younger-looking complexion with a radiant glow.”
First of all, its biggest ingredient is collagen so you know it has a really decent dose of plant power… and there’s something about this product that just feels so nice when you apply it.
It’s very cooling and has a lovely texture – its second main ingredient is water, which explains why it’s so fluid over the skin and you really feel as if you’re applying a special treatment.
Ultimate Anti-Ageing Cream:
After using the collagen treatment I then apply the moisturiser and this also has a beautiful texture.
It’s designed to strengthen the skin, restore its elasticity and immediately reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The blurb: “A rich and luxurious product that incorporates advanced anti-ageing technology … the ultimate way to restore skin’s natural radiance. Bringing together the widely celebrated alguronic acid with microalgae oil and a plant-based collagen to support and enhance the structure of the skin, it delivers incredible results…. By nourishing and firming up the skin, this revitalising cream also firms up the contours of the face and leaves it glowing.”
It almost feels like a gel, because it has a real bounce to it when you put your finger in the pot – but it’s not opaque and looks like a thickly whipped cream:
I love using this – it’s not at all heavy and glides over your face, disappearing instantly.
It smells beautiful as well and I really feel that this, in combination with the collagen gel, sets my face up for a real treatment overnight!
Unusually for me and probably where I’ve been travelling so much, my skin had been looking a little dull and I noticed, literally the morning after using these products for the first time, my skin was glowing again!
As for whether there are any visible benefits wrinkle/firmness wise, there’s no question my skin is looking super smooth, I can see the difference when I’ve been putting my foundation and powder on to take blog photos and I think my skin was perhaps a little dehydrated without me realising because overall it now looks more supple and ‘plump’.
I like that there is plenty of research and science behind these products to back up their claims and if you want to read more about them, you can do so here.
This is an investment skincare range, but I guess any skincare containing such high quality ingredients is and if you are concerned about ageing, serious about protecting your skin for the future or improving its current condition, I do believe this is a brand worth investing in.
