Handbags Make Me Happy! Ft Radley London

What is it about handbags that makes so many women happy?

…. and yes I am one of them!

I don’t mean I dream of collecting £4000 Chanels, I’m quite happy with a bag from the High Street thanks, but fundamentally there is an emotional, happy response to a sexy new bag for many of us – so what is it that gets us/me so excitable?!

I think it’s alot to do with the fact they look lovely regardless of whether you’re on a fat or thin day, an ‘I woke up ugly’ or with bad hair day… their beauty is not dependent upon ours – and if you don’t get what I mean when I refer to bags being beautiful, this blog post is probably not for you 😉

As usual, click any pic to shop!

Handbags have been around since the 1500’s when both men and women used them, then pockets were apparently invented in the 1600’s, so they became something mainly for women.

They’re so popular there’s even a museum dedicated to bags in Amsterdam which my friend actually visited recently and I was drooling over her pictures!

To me bags are almost art – I love looking at the structure and different shapes of them, plus shiny hardware and pretty details feeds my magpie tendencies…

It was when I worked for Radio Stations and had tons of events to go to that I developed my real love affair with bags. Rather than having a bottomless supply of outfits, I had a few staple favourites and then a bag to match pretty much every colour and style of outfit possible.

Nowadays I have a much smaller collection and in more neutral colours so they all get a lot more use – but you can guarantee if I’m having a bad few days and feel the need to cheer myself up, I will think about treating myself to a new one.

Seeing that pretty bag for the first time when it actually becomes yours is definitely mood boosting – for me, they’re ornamental too as I even get pleasure from just seeing them lined up on my shelves! (yes ok that’s pretty sad I know!)

So this all being said, you can imagine how pleased I was when Radley asked to work with me on a blog feature, it took me at least 2 seconds to decide to say yes 😉 and although I’ve just flown back to my beloved Spanish island, I really enjoyed floating around a very typically English park the other weekend taking these pictures!

I think my magpie tendencies were definitely involved when I chose this little beauty – isn’t she pretty?

This is a ‘Flutter’ bag which will be perfect for Spring/Summer because it’s neutral enough to go with lots of my outfits, looks fab with casual jeans but will be glam enough to take to events because of the rose gold hardware.

It’s big enough to fit all my essentials in, without being oversized so I think I’m going to get a ton of use out of it.

Radley London are a classic British brand with a great reputation which also really appealed to me when working with them.

I actually don’t use a handbag that often, I prefer to be free of carrying anything 🙂 …. Yup, there is always one ha!

Love the handbag. I don’t shop for bags, I look at others bags and ask where they purchased them. 🙂 Love shopping that way.

So true – most women I know have a handbag (or a dozen!). Like you, I have a collection that is neutral, high quality and versatile. The one you are sporting is so cute – love the style!

I find it fascinating how handbags can elicit such an emotional response in people. I have my man bag that goes pretty much everywhere with me but it’s one for all occasions. It’s bizarre to think of me having multiple man bags for various outfits.

I totally agree!! Handbags are so expressive and fun!! Sometimes I build an outfit around which bag I’m feeling that day.
