Can You Really Get a Salon Manicure at Home?

I love the convenience of a gel nail polish manicure because they are so hard wearing – I find them perfect when I’m travelling, but salon systems are expensive to maintain as you need to go and have the nail growth gap filled in every two weeks.

So when I was offered an at home system to try which now has a special base coat that allows you to peel the manicure off, I was really interested to give it a go.

I was sent a couple of extra gel polishes, but the standard starter kit includes two different colours as well as everything else you need for the system…

I love the idea of not having to go out to a salon, just add a glass of fizz and some candles to have a relaxing manicure at home!

I think the LED UV light is very cool because it doesn’t have an on/off switch, it senses when your hand is under it!

It also works from either a USB or the mains which is handy, especially when travelling and the light is small enough to take away in your suitcase.

The revolutionary peel off strip gel base coat avoids that horrible soaking your nails in chemicals to remove the polish….

… which is the main reason I wanted to give the system a go because that’s something which has put me off in the past.

I found the kit super easy to use – just 3 steps.

Step 1: Prep nails – file nails and wipe them clean with the nail cleanser. Allow to air dry for 15 seconds.

Step 2: Brush on the base coat and then the first coat of polish … it’s slightly thicker than normal polish but brushes on easily and smoothly.

… then cure for 30 seconds. The light flashes off briefly after 15 seconds so you know when the 30 are up without timing it yourself.

Repeat with 2nd layer of colour (and cure again for 30 seconds – I actually only did one coat as I hadn’t read the instructions properly and it still covered beautifully)

Step 3: Then add the clear top coat and cure for another 15 seconds – DONE!!

When curing with the top coat on my nails felt really hot but not uncomfortable.

My Opinion:

The products are not tested on animals and do not contain any animal products either.

I can’t believe how easy it was!

I’ve tried an at home gel system before and didn’t like it because after you applied the 2 coats of colour, my nails looked really thick and it was a nightmare to remove, having to soak your fingers in chemicals and then buffing the remaining hard bits off.

This system gives you a manicure that lasts 2 weeks and you just peel it off when you want to change the colour – it comes off in small bits but doesn’t take long to do at all, then you just give your nails a quick wipe with the cleanser and start again!

The only negative I can mention – and this is about any gel nail system I have tried – is that I always find after I remove a gel manicure, my nails underneath are a little bit weak and bendy. This gets fixed straightaway if you reapply the polish, but if you leave your nails bare for a while, I would recommend using a really good strengthening base coat to firm them back up again!

Conclusion:

If you currently go for regular gel manicures at a salon or have wanted to try gel polish I would highly recommend this system.

I only recommend products I’m truly impressed with and this is one of them.

It’s going to save you a lot of money in the long run – It’s usually £59.99 but I have a discount code too – 20% off with the code SGBOK-YE-II at checkout here – so that’s £48 for everything, meaning within 2 salon sessions you’ve covered the cost of the kit and there are tons of extra beautiful shades available too here.

It does still take 5 to 10 minutes longer to remove than normal nail polish, but that’s really no big deal and I will definitely be using this regularly in the future – I think I will mainly use it for when I’m traveling and for special occasions when I don’t want to worry about my polish chipping!

I find that I never get my nails done in the salon because it takes forever. I like the idea that these pull off and that they don’t use harsh chemicals.
