Transitional Skincare for Sensitive Skin

My skin has had a tendency to go a little sensitive in the past few years and I have no idea why… but one of the things that really triggers it is when the seasons change.

It doesn’t matter whether things are getting warmer or colder, it seems to upset the balance of my skin and I can get dry patches, itchy areas, texture under the surface of my skin and sometimes spots too.

I’ve found the best thing to do is really pair back the amount of products I’m using and stick to a basic and consistent routine to calm everything down… so if this is something that affects you too, here’s a list of the go-to products I use to keep my face as happy as healthy as possible at this time of the year!

1. Cleanser.

At this time of year. I absolutely swear by the Emma Hardie Moringa cleansing balm it smells absolutely heavenly is super effective gentle and quiet nourishing you can also I reapply as a moisturizer oral facial treatment once a week and I cannot say enough good things about this stuff!

2. Toner.

Avene water spray is super calming and I will also use it throughout the day to freshen my face up particularly if I’ve been sitting in front of the computer for a few hours or the house feels dry from the central heating. 8 something I use all year round to be honest as it’s a pretty good in hot weather when traveling.

3. Moisturizer.

Another Avene rescue recovery cream it’s light but effective, sinks straight into the skin and makes it feel ready soft and supple. perfume free and part of that range designed specifically for very sensitive skin.

4. Mask.

I make a point of applying a face mask weekly and my go to favorite is the sanctuary moisture. It doesn’t go all dry on your face, it just gets gradually absorbed in the areas where your skin needs it and then you wipe off anything that’s left after about 20 minutes.

It always leaves my face feeling lovely and soft and looking brighter somehow too.

I like buying it in the Sasha’s which you can get to you since I was told because they are great for traveling.

5. Lips.

My go-to lip balm is by Carmex and I love its herbal scent. Sometimes if I’m stressed I have a habit of chewing on my lips and then they go all dry and also the wind dries them out too, so I try to keep one of these in my handbag all the time.

I find it super effective, I’ve only got to use it a couple of times of day for 24 hours and the dryness just disappears.

6. Hands.

I don’t know about you but my hands have a tendency to go quite lizard-like at this time of the year! I swear it’s the central heating… so a really good hand cream is a must.

The one I’m loving using this year is the Rose and Geranium hand cream by LivOliv Cosmetics. I love its thick consistency which makes it feel luxurious and it spreads beautifully over the skin, getting absorbed instantly and the scent is just heavenly.

7. Nails.

I made the mistake of not using a cuticle oil for the past month and all of a sudden I’ve got some hangnails and my cuticles feel ready rigid and hard… so I’m back on the cuticle oil and leaving some by my computer to remind me to put it on every day or so!

In combination with their hand cream I just mentioned, I also love the LivOliv Cosmetics Cuticle Oil and the one I’ve just started using is called Moulin Rouge – the scent is just so lovely, it’s really decadent and warm. I like this one because it’s quite light and not too greasy.

For polish I love wearing deep, dark and warm colours at this time of year and Boudica is a bronzey/purpley and lightly sparkly shade that looks great with pretty much any outfit.

8. Body.

Just like my face, the skin on my body gets irritated at this time of year as well so I switch to quite a rich, moisturizerising shower gel and try to get in the habit of using a body cream every evening before I go to sleep.

I’m a big fan of anything with olive oil in it as it always works beautifully for me and I’m abroad at the moment so using a local cream which is actually really cheap, I should bring some back to the UK with me!
