I made a quiet return to Instagram the other day after months of feeling disconnected in general and overwhelmed with the whole ethos and lack of positivity of social media.
I felt pressured to conform to the influencer norm, obliged to constantly post and interact and drained from worrying about numbers – how many followers, how many likes etc …
BUT after a good break and actively consuming less online crap I realised I was mostly causing all of those thoughts myself.
“Quiz….is this A: Me trying to remember how to use Instagram because it’s been so bloody long – or B: Me trying to work out what the F happened to 2020?”
The bottom line is I’m a pretty creative person and I really miss photography and I miss editing images, making graphics and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on with a blog and not going on Instagram had a direct impact on my activity here as well.
So what am I going to do? I’m going to post when I feel like it, am not going to worry about who’s reading it or what Brands might want to work with me and therefore what style of images and content I should be putting out there.
I’m going to do this for me, using it as a place to express myself as and when I have something worthwhile to say and hopefully find more of a balance so that I can keep this blog going, keep my Instagram looking pretty and interact with some nice people in the process haha!
